Greetings From The Beast
It’s hot outside, with our warmest weekend yet this year on tap, but never fear! As the name of our free weekly concert series implies, it’s Cooler in the Mountains and we have another great show lined up for you presented by Bud Light Seltzer. Grateful Dead cover band Dobb’s Dead will be on the stage at Snowshed performing all your favorites, with an opening set by the Gully Boys. BYOB or take advantage of our pop-up bar from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Another way to cool down is to feel the breeze as you whisk down the trails on your mountain bike. The trail crew has officially opened Lower Steel Panther for the season and over 30 miles of terrain is waiting for you to explore from three lifts. Let gravity do most of the work because it’s way too hot to pedal! We’re also gearing up for several upcoming mountain bike events later this summer, including the Red Bull Raw and Next Gen Raw Slaloms next weekend, the Maxxis Eastern States Cup in August, the Fox US Open of Mountain Biking in September and the Eastern States Cup Downhill Finals in October. Some trails may be impacted during these events, but there’s still plenty of summer left to get those laps in, whether you plan to compete or just watch the action.
Saturday night is the season finale of the Killington Music Festival’s Music in the Mountains series, featuring a potpourri of works including Saint-Saëns’ piano quartet and Borodin’s string trio, coupled with transcriptions of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and William Grant Still’s Motherless Child. If you love classical music, you don’t want to miss this concert at Pico Mountain beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Killington Farmers Market is also happening on Friday from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Killington Sports Route 4 parking lot. While you’re there, browse a wide selection of logo wear and outdoor gear in our store, open weekends all summer long. You can shop online anytime from the comfort of your own home on our website, where you’ll find a variety of mountain bike gear and Killington logo golf apparel, too.
Speaking of golf, a lot is happening at our gorgeous par 72 course. Our new fleet of electric golf carts have finally arrived! The newly-formed KMS golf team has found a home on the links, and you can learn more in our latest blog. Michelob Ultra League Nights are happening every Thursday, and we were recently awarded second place in NBC GolfPass Golfer's Choice best courses in Vermont for 2022. Thanks to everyone who voted!
One more item of note as the summer goes on. Due to some outside work on the K-1 Lodge, we will need to close the K-1 Gondola on Mondays and Thursdays in August. It will still spin Friday-Sunday all month long for your summit hikes and scenic gondola rides.
See you on the trails!
